I edited a picture for my magazine cover on photo I print screened every step I did. Showing how I changed the colour of the skin getting rid of blemishes and it shows a clear understanding of how you can create this using different photos of your choice. 

Photo Shoots

Looking at these original images i took, picked the ones i liked to edit, experimenting with black and white and the brightness. I took many different images experimenting with different costumes and looks. I looked at different outfit ideas before taking my photos. Also experimenting with different backgrounds for example a plain white stupid background and a wall with different collage to create effect and using different props. I decided to choose the outfits i did because i think they suit my correct genre of R&B and hip hop. For example the head scarf and denium shirt. The grey t shirt links in with the idea of rihanna in her take care video who featured Drake. I chose all the outfits i did to suit my genre and based them on my idols of who i wanted my magazine to be based on.

Target Audience

These are my initial idea mock ups of my front cover, contents page and double page spread which are hand drawn compared to my ones which i have designed on a computer. They show a rough outline of what i want my final front cover, contents page and double page to look like.

I have produced this digital mock up using exsiting images from google. Experimenting with different fonts and seeing which would look best. Creating headlines and main headlines which could feature on my final product. This has helped me to see what i want my layout to be like and when taking my own photos i will base my images and the way my artist is positioned so i can get the same effect like this one. After doing this digital mock up i will look at now drafting my first front covers but using my own images.

Hierachy of needs

In this you can see that the Marslows believes that life is one journey but in reality we live in a Hierarchy. Once you fulfil one level, you move back down to the bottom. I see this Hierarchy as once you work your way up through education and you complete your a levels and move onto uni you move straight back to the bottom and that is the circle of life. In this Hierarchy I believe that people who are on the social and esteem will purchase my magazine. Once you socialize you become interested in a particular genre, You then want status and respected people to admire you.

DEMOGRAPHICS

The fact that the colour is grey and black of the whole contents means that any colour would pull in the reader and draws the attention to it. The arm over the shoulder of the artists with the red heart in her hand shows possibly what he may be like and he is hiding his feelings but she knows what he is like with the red standing out of the grey dominant colour. Red represents romance and love which may show a different side to his personality. The artist is making clear eye contact to the reader which draws the reader in. His expression shows quite edgy and it may reflect a different side of his personality. The fact that the artist has his hands in his pockets shows that he has a much laid back approach.  May show confidence and make the reader feel very laid back and at ease.  Even though the colours blend in with the background you can identify the artist his outfit clearly stands out.  The font and the text is also very laid back with the colours that also flows with the headings which draws the reader into reading the contents page. The writing is show onto the left side of the page which is effective because it is the last thing the reader will read. The way the title is positions it draws in the reader straight away it is bold and makes a statement with the capital letters. The black title links in with the colour scheme of the back ground.

In these examples of contents pages you can tell there is a constant theme running through them which are taken from different issues of vibe magazine. Each of the contents pages have a dominant picture witch pulls in the audience. The colour themes which run through all seem to be similar with the dominant grey and black background unlike the one with a dominant red background. The colour schemes all seem to go with the text and picture. The title all have the same layout with the bold writing and capital letters which draws the audience straight in. The colour links in with the background with the colours being black or white which fits in with the dominant grey and black colour themes. The main images of the artists are the most dominant feature in the contents page because they take up a huge amount of space. The writing and headlines all flow which it’s easy to read the colour and font are very laid back and the text flows with each headline.

I have picked 3 different music magazines to compare I have picked an issue of vibe, source and XXL. These 3 different magazines are all based on the genre of hip hop and r&b. All the titles on each front cover are a main feature of the front cover.  The XXL magazine title is partly covered by the artists head which then makes the artist the most dominant feature which also the same with vibe the artist covers some of the title which draws away the attention to the artist. The issue of the source the full title is shown; all the titles are used with a bold font which is mostly bigger than the text shown on each front cover. They all have a dominant colour scheme running through the front cover which flows with the text and font.  Each magazine has the artist name as a main headline on the front cover. The colour schemes are all very different but the main colour that is features in all 3 magazines is red.   

I have picked 3 double page spreads from various different magazines and I have looked at how the way they are all presented. The main thing that pulls in my attention is that most of the double page spreads one page is dedicated to a page of the artist which the double page is about. The page on Lady gaga shows a dominant picture one left and the writing is on the right hand side which means that is the last thing that the reader will read which is affected because it pulls the reader in to read it after seeing the dominant picture. The dominant colour red also pulls the reader in because it is very bright and bold which is spread across the text. On one of the magazines the dominant colour is black and gold which also a dominant picture and shows importance. On the other photo is also has the pattern running through with the picture of the left hand side.

My chosen genre

The genre of my music i have chosen to look at is Hip Hop and R&b I have chosen this genre because i am interested in that particular type of music and i think that there is a gap in the market for music magazines suited for this genre. I looked at the the UK top 40 to see how much music of this genre was featured in the charts, this research showed that a lot of the music featured in the charts there is quite a lot of Hip Hop and R&B featured. For example drake, Nicki Minaj, Rita Ora, Misha B. This shows that people are listening to this type of music and i think the music magazine industry would defiantly benefit with more magazines featuring this genre and i think it would benefit a lot of the young people also interested in this style of music.
